Black History Month

October is Black History Month.  As part of our ongoing work to celebrate diversity, Miss Sullivan used the book “Strong Like Me” in collective worship on Wednesday this week.  It told the story of Kamara and her quest to find out what made her so special.  The children loved hearing Kamara’s story and how she found out her strengths and promised never to try and hide them.  The book enabled the children to consider all the different ways in which they can be strong and to think about strengths that they can see in their heroes and also in themselves.

Perhaps the children can find out more about some of the heroes mentioned in the book who show their strength such as: Simone Biles (gymnast), Naomi Osaka (tennis player), Dina Asher-Smith (sprinter), Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon (computer scientist) and Shirley Thompson (composer) or reflect with you on their own strengths.
