Reception and Year 3 - Hedgehog collaboration
This half term, Reception and Year 3 are carrying out their paired learning project. They have chosen to focus on Hedgehogs and how they are currently facing problems with habitat loss in the UK.
The children will learn more about the features of hedgehogs, what makes a good habitat for them and the action that they could take in the local community, school grounds and own gardens to help make a positive impact on local hedgehogs.
We are very lucky to have a resident Hedgehog expert in school, Mrs Sharp and last Friday the children took a trip to go and visit her garden where many hedgehogs currently live - as seen on her night camera. The children worked with their buddies to think of some questions to ask Mrs Sharp about why her garden makes a good habitat and they then had the opportunity to search for the perfect places the hedgehogs may hide, including near her very big hedges!
The children were very inspired by the visit and this week have been making posters to advise people of how to protect hedgehogs that they may see. In Reception, some children also built their own 'Hedgehog Cam'!
