Rocksteady Music School
On Tuesday 13th January we had our Rock Steady Launch. This involved the whole school, all the way from Reception up to Year 6. We'd seen and heard Tommy from Rock Steady setting up and doing his sound checks in the hall but we weren't prepared for what we were about to experience!
As soon as we were all sat down, he had everyone, staff included, clapping the beat and chanting rhythms. He then introduced all the instruments one by one. We learnt about the electric guitar, the electric bass guitar, the electric drum kit, the keyboard and finally our voices, enabled by the microphone! To finish our launch assembly Tommy managed to create an impromptu staff band with Mrs Cox on the drums, Mrs Southwood on the keyboard and Mrs Amin on the electric guitar, helped along by the children's voices!
After a short break, it was the children's turn. With some very willing volunteers, Tommy created the Pink Capybara Sushis! Namely Beth on the drums, Jack on the electric guitar, AK on the bass, Reggie and Isabelle on the keyboard and Elysia and Olivia O on the vocals. It was difficult to choose just a few from all the hands that went up! They did an absolutely brilliant rendition of 'We will rock you' helped by the rest of the school and staff. We had the best morning making music together and being inspired to create our very own band with the help of Tommy.
If this is something your child would be interested in doing, the sessions start on Thursday 29th January. The Rocksteady team will be in school (8:30am until 11am) working for 30minute sessions with groups of children who have signed up.
