World Book Day 2026
At the start of March All Saints, Datchworth celebrated World Book Day with a week-long festival of reading.
The whole school used a wonderful wordless book, ‘The Tree and the River’, as the basis for their writing over the week. The book, which tells a story of the interconnected relationship between nature and humanity uses beautiful images and helped children across the school to explore themes of life, growth, resilience and our relationship with the world. It has also enabled children to develop their use of language in the form of poetry.

During the week, Year 6 took part in an online live lesson linked to their learning sequence on ‘twisted fairytales’.
During this session, the author and illustrator of ‘Goldilocs’, Ella McLeod and Rochelle Falconer read the book, which is written from Goldilocs’ perspective, and then led a tutorial on how to draw a bear.
On World Book Day itself, it was wonderful to see so many of the children and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters and all the children took part in a fantastic Julia Donaldson-themed trail organised by Mrs Amin.

Year 6 also enjoyed bringing in some of their favourite books which they shared with younger children from Willow Class.

As well as the World Book Day tokens, which were given out to children before half-term, every child was also able to choose a book to take home and keep.
