Writing
Just before Christmas, we had a visit from our School Effectiveness Adviser, Julie Winwood, with a focus on writing. As you will know, the whole school has started using ESSENTIALwriting and ESSENTIALspelling to support improvements in writing. Julie worked with us to evaluate how this work is going and we are delighted to share some of the details from her report. She found that, “Writing has a high profile across the school” and that, “Many opportunities are planned for pupils to revisit learning and therefore, embed their writing skills to their long-term memory.” She was impressed with the training that has been provided to all staff and pupil behaviour in class. She also commented on how “Christian values clearly shine through”. As part of the visit, we reflected on handwriting and presentation across the school.
As a result, we are having a school-wide drive on presentation and our PTFA has kindly funded new pens for every child in Year 5 and 6. These pens have been carefully considered to support consistency and comfort when writing.

This example of writing, from Marnie, shows how well the new pen launch has gone.
Thank you PTFA!
