Welcome to Year 2!

In Year 2, the children will continue to develop their skills and knowledge across the curriculum.

As part of our English curriculum, the children will have daily phonics lessons where they will continue to follow the Monster Phonics programme. Reading is a key area of the curriculum in Year 2 and this is supported by reading lessons, 1:1 reading homework. Children will have banded books to take home and read, which follow the progression of Monster Phonics. In writing, Year 2 will further their knowledge of grammar and punctuation and will be given opportunities to apply this independently across a broad range of different genres.

During our maths lessons we use a wide range of resources to help us explain our understanding of the mathematical concepts we are learning about.

In Year 2, we have 3 main topics throughout the year; The Great Fire of London, The Rainforest and Extreme Survivors. Our geography and history learning is all linked to these lessons and ,where appropriate, links are made to our science curriculum, art and DT.
